Before you pick a name
- Search the name on the California Secretary of State’s bizfile Online to see if an LLC or corporation already uses it.
- If you work under a name that isn’t your own legal name, file a fictitious business name (DBA) with your county clerk. In Los Angeles County that’s the Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk.
- If you have a contractor license, the name on your website and ads should match your CSLB license record.
- Check that the .com is free, and search the name on Google Maps so you don’t pick one a nearby business already uses.
These are ideas only. We don’t check if a name is available or can be trademarked.

Questions
Are these names free to use?
The ideas are free, but we don’t check whether someone already uses a name. Check bizfile Online, your county’s DBA records, Google Maps and the .com before you decide.
Do you use AI to make the names?
No. The names come from word lists and patterns that contractors commonly use. The same choices always give the same list, and nothing you type leaves your browser.
Should my business name have my city in it?
It can help people see right away that you’re local. If you plan to grow into more cities later, a name without a city is easier to keep.
Should I have a name in Spanish too?
If many of your customers speak Spanish, a name that works in both languages, or a Spanish slogan, can help. Your website can have both languages.
